London Drawing Week

Day 2
Woke up late, missed the gallery trip with Anne, however I was in the mood for life drawing and went on the bus to Westminister. I stood in the middle of a pedestrian crossing area, I stood in one place and like drawing the animals in the zoo i followed there movements and drew them and the surrounding areas quickly and non stop for about 2 hours. It was really inspirational and I discovered I really loved drawing people. Some of the drawings are also from the next day at Brick Lane where I did the same drawing people moving. I think the coloured pencils worked really well on the brown paper, makes the colours look really bold and interesting.

London Drawing Week

November 2009. My course had a drawing trip to New York, I was slightly lacking funds to go, but I had a amazing week in London. Tutors that had stayed at college had organised various places for us to go and draw from. It was one of the first chances that we have had to go out and draw during college time and not be in the studio with so much going on. It was a relaxing yet I found myself doing the most work so far because I enjoyed it so much.
What I got from the brief was to basically 'draw London'. On the first day you were to go to a location chosen by yourself. So luckily my friends Megan and Alice in 2nd year were doing a project on animals. So we went to London Zoo! It was cold and rainy but there were enough animals out for us to draw. It was challenging to draw the animals because they never stood still, so I attempted to draw them moving, which I think gave my drawings real freedom.

Project Sign 5. to illustrate a poster from a selected title.
I chose ' Once You Pop You Can't Stop'.


I had variety of ideas to make this a fun playful image, popping popcorn, bubbles, balloons. then i thought about the actual 'can't stop' wording and thought of it as a addiction and smoking was a first thought to use as a addiction. I still wanted to use a playful imagery so my idea was to have a image of a smoker with bubbles coming out of their breath, what would have been smoke. It is meant to look 'fun' yet be thought-provoking as bubbles associate with popping and once the bubbles pop you just 'can't stop'. However if I was to do it again I would try to have more of a focus on the poster looking like a poster not just a image. The colour image is the original on a3 paper, and the black and white is a A1 photocopy which was the requirements for the brief.

Bearskin

Drawings from the Bearskin fairytale story. I wanted them to be pop up somehow so I layered 3 pieces of card with drawings on them all and cut around them to show the drawing behind it and only stuck the corners together. My tutor thought that it looked too busy which I agree it did seem too much to look at at once. Also some of the drawings in the background could have been seen clearer if images were flat.

Victoria's Utopic Tropic

In relation to my collections, coloured tights, music and trees I used all of these for my inspiration for a map of "my land". I wanted to have no white space what so ever and cover it with colour and wavy lines that I got from drawing from my tights that were all tied together in a mess. I think the finished piece was over done and hard to understand, and possibly looked too clutered although that was what I was trying to produce I wasn't really happy with the outcome. But I do like these close up photos.
