Puffin Book Cover Competition

I entered the Penguin Children's Design Award which was to design a cover for James and the Giant Peach.
I wanted to show the magic happening on the cover when James trips up and the magic seeds drop all over the place, and the insects in the roots of the peach tree start to grow human size.
It was quite a late decision to enter the competition, so I didn't spend as much time as I wish I could have, I'm glad I entered though and gave it a go.
Also it was lovely to read the book again.

shadow puppets

mcmillian children's book storyboard

Here are my inital drawings for my children's story. Very rough quickly drawn, quite funny characters formed by this process which I can take and make them look better with more time and attention.
The story is about a brother and sister, Henry and Emily. I need to write the text but I may decide to keep it just a picture book.
So, the story:
Its bedtime and the children want to stay up and play games. They start to play shadow puppets.
Henry keeps making dinosaur shadows,
Emily makes a butterfly, and a rabbit but Henry's dinosaur eats everything up.
Emily is annoyed and tells him to stop
but the dinosaur shadow is still there.
It starts to move out the room and the children follow.
Down the stairs,
To the kitchen
where the dinosaur eats all the food.
the kids follow and hide under the table.
The dinosaur leads them to the lounge
they watch fearfully
then the dinosaur spots them and is about to eat them!
BUT emily stands up and changes the dinosaur into a bird
as it was only a shadow all along.
It flies out the room and the children are safe
now they're sleepy and fall asleep.
mum and dad find them asleep on the floor and take them to bed.

Publish

Our publish project was to produce a publication in book format with a content and audience in mind. Our task was to print 10 copies of our publication so to work out where and how to print our book.
I chose to do my publication on Berlin, after visiting the city in January I was inspired to create a guide book. I decided to base the book on just one day in Berlin, focus on a lengthy walk that takes you around some of the best places to visit, without having to work out how to get everywhere on the u-bahn and s-bahn which was too confusing for me anyway.Lustgarten/Museum Sinsel

Text and image workshops.

Workshop with creating images that came from words. A task we did in groups to attempt to not create a generic clip art image. We all had to use black ink and the same size brush. With a list of words to draw from, here are some of my drawings.

Urine.

Workshop with image and text we did as a class in november. We used cut outs or rubber/ stamps/ stencils to make a image using text.I cut out words from a mixture of articles about sleep and dreaming and chose words that related in my head to allign underneath or to the side of the word. A bit of fun cutting and sticking workshop.

Final images for Fact project

lambeth roundabout was at a stand still when a helicopter landed in the middle. All the buses stopped and everyone gathered round to wait for the helicopter to fly off. Especially amazing as I was on my way to the war museum to draw helicopters and airplanes.
